American Jailed For 12 Years For Attempting To Overthrow Vietnamese Government

A Vietnamese court in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday sentenced a U.S. citizen to 12 years in prison. According to Reuters, his lawyer said his client was found guilty of “attempting to overthrow the state” in a trial that lasted just half a day. 55-year-old American citizen Michael Phuong Minh Nguyen pleaded guilty, but had asked that his sentence be reduced so he could be reunited with his family.
