Earth’s Last Major Warm Period Was As Hot As Today
New research suggests that the last time Earth's temperature was as high as we see it today, the sea levers were much higher, that they would completely drown New Orleans. Researchers report on in the January 20 Science News, that ocean surface temperatures around 125,000 years ago were comparable to those of today. Estimates in the past have suggested that this period in time is the peak for the last warm phase, and was as much as 2 degrees Celsius warmer. Now climate scientists are using the last inter glacial period to analyze, study, and predict how rising temperatures will affect sea levels in the future.
