How Would 45 Degree Angles Revolutionize Parking Lots?
Mathematics Professor David Percy thinks a parking lot revolution can happen by repainting the white lines signifying the parking spaces. Parking lots generally have spaces set at a 90-degree angle to the lane one travels down. Percy found this system to be inefficient in terms of space used. He theorizes if the parking bays were repainted to be set at a 45-degree angle to the lane, then the lane could be narrower and still allow for easy driving into and reversing out of each space. According to Professor Percy, this shift could add an extra 119 spots in a typical 500 bay parking lot.
