Iran's Rouhani Rejects Talks Until U.S. Falls In Line With 2015 Accord
According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani rejected talks with the United States, after President Donald Trump claimed that Iran would seek negotiations 'if and when they are ever ready.' In recent weeks, the United States has tightened sanctions with the goal of pushing Iran to make concessions beyond the terms of its 2015 nuclear deal. One year ago, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the deal between Iran and global powers, under which Tehran agreed to curb its uranium enrichment capacity, in exchange for sanctions relief. Reuters reports that Trump extended US sanctions on Iran this month, ordering all countries to halt imports of Iranian oil or face sanctions of their own. Iran has reportedly rejected the possibility for further negotiations so long as the United States remain outside of the 2015 nuclear agreement.
