Last Male Sumatran Rhino Dies In Malaysia
According to CNN, Malaysia's last male Sumatran rhino has died, leaving behind just one female of the same rare species in the country. The animal's death was confirmed by the Borneo Rhino Alliance in a statement on Facebook. BORA wrote: "It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news that Tam, Malaysia's last male Sumatran rhino, has passed away." Sumatran rhinos are the world's smallest rhinoceros species, standing at around 4 feet 3 inches high, when fully grown. The World Wildlife Foundation reports that the animals are found in Indonesia, Malaysia, and some are also thought to live in southern Thailand. It is unclear precisely how many Sumatran rhinos remain, but it's believed to be somewhere around 80.
