Mark Hamill Says He's 'Out Of Work' After Episode VIII

Published on 07/18/19 / In News & Politics

Mark Hamill has been known to speak frankly and off-the-cuff. During a conversation with Ray Davies of the Kinks, the subject of Star Wars came up eventually.
Hamill said when asked about his future with the franchise, "I finish Episode VIII, and then I'm out of work." the implication of course being that Luke Skywalker will appear in Episode 8 and then will NOT appear in subsequent episodes. The report came with zero context.
Most likely, Hamill isn't spoiling anything about the next two episodic films in the Star Wars franchise. It
It's probable he was speaking of his immediate plans, saying he didn't have anything directly on his schedule after wrapping Episode VIII. With no production schedule yet for Episode IX, let alone a finalized script, it's not something that'd even be on the actor's radar just yet. His regular work in video games, film, and TV, as The Joker and other characters, may also see a lull as well
Still, reports of the final sequence being shot had only Daisy Ridley (Rey), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) present in Ireland at the real-life location of the fictional First Jedi Temple: a potential showdown that could result in a death.
Audiences will have to wait until December 2017 to find out.
