Mosul Will Take 5 Years And Billions of Dollars to Rebuild
Officials returning to Mosul have said that damaged city would take at least five years to repair and would require billions of dollars of development from Iraq's government. Iraqi government forces backed by a U.S.-led coalition, have now retaken the eastern half of the city after more than 2 years. Noureldin Qablan, a deputy chairman of the region's council, told Reuters that "After Mosul is fully liberated, we need a working plan to restore things to the way they were before 2014 when Islamic State took over." Iraq's army has said it expects to expel Islamic State from the rest of the city by May.
