The diet — called the Sirtfood diet — allows consumption of only 20 approved "Sirtfoods." These 20 foods include kale, coffee, cocoa, and wine, and are high in polyphenols, a plant micronutrient that may help activate a person's sirtuin genes. The Sirtfood diet goes in two phases, the first of which lasts a week and is broken down into two smaller phases. This diet is particularly alarming because of the 1,000 calorie period. It's not considered safe to dip daily intake below 1,200 calories, even for those who are looking to lose weight.
