Racist Cop To Serve 10 + Years
William Melendez, former Michigan police officer, was sentenced up to ten years in prison for acts of violence against an unarmed black man. The victim, Floyd Dent, was stopped for a minor traffic offense. Then, Melendez and his fellow officers proceeded to beat Dent and plant drugs in his vehicle. Judge Vonda Evans served Melendez his sentence this week. While reading her statement she said they were “a group of racist police officers” who carried out a “humiliating and degrading” act against Dent. She ended with the powerful question, "It's 2015, how does this happen?"
