Survivors Of Liberia Massacre Sue Alleged Mastermind
Four survivors of a Liberian church massacre have filed a civil lawsuit in a U.S. court against the man they allege ordered the attack.
The massacre killed 600 people on July 29th, 1990, in the midst of the Liberian civil war.
Brought to federal court in Philadelphia, the lawsuit accuses Moses Thomas of directing the killing
Thomas was a colonel in the Armed Forces of Liberia at the time.
Following the war, Thomas came to the US under an immigration program intended to help victims of the conflict
According to the lawsuit, he now lives in a Philadelphia suburb.
The case was filed under U.S. laws allowing foreign victims of war crimes to sue perpetrators in U.S. courts.
Activists hail the case as a first step towards holding those responsible for the massacre accountable.
