Weed-Killer Roundup May Be Linked To Fatty Liver Disease In Humans
The journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology published a study that showed a possible link between glyphosate and fatty liver disease.
After examining the urine of nearly 100 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, the researchers found that glyphosate levels were higher in those with liver inflammation and damage than those without.
These results held true regardless of a person's age, race, or Body Mass Index (BMI).
The publishing follows a recent court ruling that awarded a North California couple $2 billion in damages against Monsato over the weed-killer Roundup.
The couple claim they became ill with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma after using Roundup on their lawn for decades.
Roundup's active ingredient is glyphosate, a widely-used agricultural pesticide.
A jury ruled that Roundup was a "substantial factor" in causing the couple's cancer, marking one of the first verdicts out of around 13,400 similar court cases lobbed against Monsanto.
